Selena Gomez, who rose to fame playing Alex Russo on the Emmy Award-winning Disney television series Wizards of Waverly Place, is shedding her squeaky clean image for her edgy new film Spring Breakers.

The film, which is directed by controversial Kids and Gummo writer Harmony Korine, will attract a different audience for Gomez, taking her career a whole new direction. Gomez appears in the trailer with Disney costar Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars), and Rachel Korine (wife of the director) wearing bikinis, smoking pot, taking shots, and shooting guns. A barely recognizable (and shirtless) James Franco, who looks more like Sean Paul, plays their ringleader.

I think that its going to be very interesting and a little controversial, Gomez has said of the film.

Ya think? For those having trouble accepting Gomezs new image, if its any consolation, she did opt out of the threesome scene involving Hudgens, Benson, and Franco.

Spring Breakers opens March 29.
